Opening at Frankfurt Kunstverein on August 18th 2011
The exhibition Frontiers of Another Nature will open on the 18th of August at Frankfurt Kunstverein.
"Frontiers of Another Nature - Contemporary Photographic Art from Iceland" is a unique selection of emerging and established Icelandic photo-media artists. These artists repeatedly draw from the landscape and environment in their work. Most of the artists are little known in Germany and most of these particular works have never been on view here.
"Frontiers of Another Nature" examines how the photographic arts are essential to examine individual derivations, which constitute the complexities of Icelanders undeniable relationship to their natural environment. This exhibition will introduce ambiguous environments in which the photographers themselves investigate and build visual narratives around the expanse of land, or the loss of it. Here the landscape often performs as metaphor for desire, alienation, magnificence and awe, tradition, irony and rebellion or achievement and deficit.
Artists: Bára Kristinsdóttir, Einar Falur Ingólfsson, Haraldur Jónsson, Hrafnkell Sigurðsson, Icelandic Love Corporation, Ingvar Högni Ragnarsson, Katrin Elvarsdóttir, Pétur Thomsen and Spessi.
Curators: Celina Lunsford, Artistic Director, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt and Dr. Christiane Stahl, Director of the Alfred-Ehrhardt-Stiftung in cooperation with Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir, Curator of Photography, National Museum of Iceland, Reykjavík and María Karen Sigurðardóttir, Director of the Museum for Photography, Reykjavík
The Exhibition is a production of the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt in cooperation with the Frankfurter Kunstverein.

Reality Groupshow opening at Reykjavik Art festival in May
Reality Check is an outdoor exhibition of works which are dealing with everyday environments, recent events, matters of fact that become matters of concern; the enchantment of the ordinary towards the extra-ordinary. The exhibition brings together works by contemporary Icelandic artists and photographers, who use photography as a creative space; contributing to the construction of our mental realities of today. In this exhibition, the works trace a path they become a place where things can be discussed.
Curated by Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir.
The public space seems neutral but is in fact as sensitive as the spectator himself. What happens when images are moved from the art space into the public realm? They can become aggressive and provoke reaction among spectators, who can hardly ignore them. What can be shown and where? What can be seen and what is to hide? Where are the limits, this fine line that turns a snapshot into a work, a documentary into a new narrative, a press-photo into a statement?
In the exhibition Reality Check, artists and photographers are dealing with everyday environments, recent events, matters of facts that become matters of concern; the enchantment of the ordinary towards the extra-ordinary. The exhibition brings together works by contemporary artists and photographers, who use photography as a creative space, as a part of installation or documentary, turning its everydayness into our contemporary aesthetics.
The exhibition creates a walk, which has its roots in the way people created popular itinerary in the centre of Reykjavik. The walk has an attachment to the place and questions daily habits and a traditional image of the city. The aim is to break up habits, stir and question, take people further to places they might ignore or look past every day. Limits between documentary, press-photography and art photography have been blurred, in order to challenge genres and question our habits of seeing.

Ljósmyndarinn Ingvar Högni Ragnarsson festir birtingarmyndir kreppunnar á
filmu með seríu sinni Waiting
Eftir Birgi Örn Steinarsson biggi@mbl.is

Iceland Review article
"Þess á milli" Book review in Morgunblaðið
A review of my photobook Þess á milli came in Morgunblaðið the 11 of Október and was written by Einar Falur Ingólfsson. The review is only in Icelandic but I translated one quote from Einar Falurs review.
" "Þess á milli" deals with the intermediate condition when reality changes. Therefore this bookwork deals head on with the present, and reveals almost a complete reflection of the absurd reality we experience in Iceland to day. A reality that is so unreal, a reality that you fint your self "in between". A reality that no one knows and has no use for, like the one in Ingvar Högni photographs"
