The project is a about the contemporary state of Sweden and what constructs a social image of a nation. Sweden has seen in the past years the uprising of extreme right wing movements and the social conflicts over immigration and political refugees has escalated. There seem to be an underlaying conflict of ideologies in the social welfare state of Sweden and the image of Sweden is changing. This project which is an ongoing project started in 2009 and will be continued until the next elections will be held in Sweden.
This particular photography preview is about Stad Solidar a movement fighting to preserve Möllan a prosperous multicultural neighbourhood
in the heart of Malmö. The Stad Solidar have built a small village for the homeless and the less fortunate and are fighting with the multicultural inhabitants to prevent the building of an expensive apartment complex out of reach for the current inhabitants. Stad Solidar are fighting for the people to preserve the neigbourhood the inhabitants have built for the last 20 years.
I spent a weekend with the people of Stad Solidar and sat around a bondfire in one of the houses while some young kids were selling beer under the counter to make some small amount of money. The people talked about the preservation of Möllan and the hard environment for young people in Malmö to find housing and get good jobs. With out the capital you are a pawn in the big picture and always expendable.
In january 2011 the construction is scheduled to start.
